Rosary (for the Month of May, honouring our Lady)
The Rosary will be said at Kingstone Holy Well next Saturday at 4pm.
Some people may wish to individually walk from St. Kevin’s Church to the Holy Well in advance of the Rosary.
God willing the weather will be good.
First Holy Communion – Congratulations.
Congratulations to the 9 children of Keash National School who received their First Holy Communion in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church Culfadda on Saturday May 7th.
We thank Fr. Murphy, the school principal Miss O’ Dowd and the childrens teacher Miss Carbery for preparing the children for this wonderful day. We thank Maureen O’ Dowd and the Parish Choir, the sacristans Marian Kielty and Linda Donaghy for preparing the Church.
We deeply appreciate all who contribute to this celebration in the lives of the children.
We pray that we can continue to nurture these wonderful children’s faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. In years to come, when outside influences attempt to say to these children; that there is no God and that he does not exist, we pray that these children will have the strength to look within their own hearts and lives and see the Lord at work. Although we know there is wind, we can never see it. We can see it at play but we still cannot see the wind itself. We know the Lord is at work in our lives but we too cannot see him in a worldly sense. Without Priests and religious, events such as this celebration of First Holy Communion cannot happen. We pray for the Holy Spirits calling for new priests, Nuns and other religious to be heard and answered. Each of us have a part to play in circulating this message
Achonry Diocese to Knock

Confessions for Easter.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be available for Easter on Palm Sunday, April 10th from 6-7pm in Our Lady of the Rosary Church Culfadda. A visiting priest will be available, confession, will take place in the Sacristy. Our Bishop Paul Dempsey, has prepared a ‘Pocket Guide for Confession’ they are available in the church in card form, the cards might be of help to people who may be nervous coming to Confession because they don’t remember the “formula” they were taught so many years ago. As we know, Confession is not about the “formula,” however, some people find it helpful to have. The cards may also be useful in schools.
The Chrism Mass – invitation from Bishop Paul Dempsey.
This year Bishop Paul is inviting parishioners from every parish in the Diocese to participate in the Chrism Mass at St Nathy’s Cathedral, Ballaghaderreen, on Monday, 11th April at 7.30 pm. He would particularly like those who are ministering in parishes such as Readers, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, members of Parish Pastoral Councils, Finance Committees, Sacramental Co-Ordinators, Adoration Groups, Altar Societies, Sacristans, Parish Secretaries, etc., to be present for this occasion. At this Mass, the Bishop blesses the oils that will be used at every baptism, confirmation, ordination and anointing of the sick in the Diocese over the next year. Priests also renew their commitment to service. Following the Mass, refreshments will be available in St Nathy’s College. This is an occasion where we celebrate the unity of the people and priests of the diocese with the Bishop. You are most welcome to come and join in the celebration!
The death has occured this week of Rev. Fr. Roger McDonagh. Fr. Roger was appointed to the Parish of Keash in 1989, where he took up the role as curate in Culfadda. Fr. Roger remained with us for four years until September 1993; when he moved to Kilmactigue Parish.
Fr. Roger was ordained in All Hallows college, Dublin in 1959. He shortly thereafter took up the role as a Priest in the Archdiocese of Cardiff, Wales. He remained there until 1986, where he returned to Ireland, due to ill health.
Fr. Roger was a native of Gurteen and has now been laid to rest there.
Fr. Roger was highly thought of everywhere he went. A man known to regularly start out his sermons with a joke. Laughter and fun played a big part in Fr. Rogers life. In particular, he had a great way with children. Many Alter boys from our parish back when Fr. Roger was here, attended at his funeral, paying their last respects to Fr. Roger; recalling the kindness and fun that he had brought to their lives during his time in this parish.
We remember Fr. Roger at this time and thank him in prayer for his service to this parish. We pray that Fr. Roger will now enjoy the eternal rewards, from the good life that he led.
The following is an extract from a Personal reflection delivered at the Funeral Mass of Fr Roger McDonagh, prepared by him a short number of years ago.
‘Those who care about others, pick up many wounds.
Those wounds, may not of themselves be big wounds; only a multiplicity of little wounds, a host of scratches, wrinkles and belts. There can be a lot of invisible wounds.
The furrows left on the mind and heart, by hardship, worry and anxiety, disappointments, ingratitude and betrayal. Those wounds are not things to be ashamed of. Those wounds are badges of glory and honour. They are proof of our love. Jesus did not hide his wounds, which emphasised his love for us, for which we are healed.’ Fr Roger McDonagh
I love thee Jesus, my love above all things.
I repent with my whole heart for having offended thee.
Never permit me to separate myself from you again.
Grant that I may love thee always and then do with me, what thou wilt.
An Irishman is struggling to find a parking space.
“Lord,” he prayed. “I can’t stand this. If you open a space up for me, I swear I’ll give up the Guinness and go to mass every Sunday.”
Suddenly, the clouds part and the sun shines on an empty parking spot. Without hesitation, the Irishman says: “Never mind, I found one!”
“Is that the Ballycashel Echo?” asks Mick.
“How much would it be to put an ad in your paper?”
“Five pounds an inch,” a woman replies. “Why? What are you selling?”
“A ten-foot ladder,” said Mick before slamming the phone down.
An Irishman goes into a bar in America and orders three whiskeys. The barman asks: “Would it be better for if I put all three shots in one glass?”
The Irishman replies: “No! I have two other brothers back at home, so every time I come into a pub, I order a shot for them both.”
The following week, the Irishman orders just two whiskeys.
The barman asks: “Did something happen one of your brothers?” “Oh no,” replies the Irishman. “I just decided to quit drinking!”
Gerry Connors walked his dog through the village every day.
One day Mr Connors is on his walk without the dog.
His pal Billy sees him and asks: “Where is your dog?” Mr Murphy answers: “I had to have him put down.” “Was he mad,” asks Billy.
“He wasn’t too pleased,” Mr Murphy replies.
Dr O’Mahony tells his patient: “I have bad news and worse news, John.”
“Oh dear,” John replies. “What’s the bad news?” asks the patient.
The doctor replies: “You only have 24 hours to live.”
“That’s terrible,” says the patient. “How can the news possibly be worse?”
Dr O’Mahony replies: “I’ve been trying to contact you since yesterday.”
Two Irishmen were working in the public works department. One would dig a hole and the other would follow behind him and fill the hole in.
After a while, one amazed onlooker said: “Why do you dig a hole, only to have your partner follow behind and fill it up again?”
The hole digger wiped his brow and sighed, “Well, I suppose it probably looks odd because we’re normally a three-person team. But today the lad who plants the trees called in sick.”
Happy St. Patrick’s day to one and all, near and far. Following two years of covid, God willing today will be a day of joy and one in which we will all enjoy, especially our children. God bless you all.
Our small Country like every other Countries around the world has inadequacies. Today is a day however to celebrate all that is good here. We especially are cognisant of the peaceful society we live in. This is highlighted by events in the Ukraine. How lucky we are. We thank God for this grace bestowed upon us. We should reflect today on all the good this small country contains and remembering and praying for all those not so fortunate…..
In 1984, Pope John Paul the second also consecrated Russia and the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary on the 25th of March. This date is the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord or Incarnation of Jesus in Mary’s womb.
the Latin Rite Catholic bishops of Ukraine sent a letter to Pope Francis, at the beginning of March, asking him to consecrate Ukraine and Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
It was at Fatima during the apparitions in 1917, that the Blessed Virgin Mary revealed three secrets. One of the secrets as recalled by visionary Sister Lucia, was that Our Lady asked for “the Consecration of Russia to my Immaculate Heart, and the Communion of reparation on the First Saturdays” to prevent a second world war.
In a letter written in 1989, Sister Lucia confirmed that Pope John Paul the second satisfied Our Lady’s request for Russia’s consecration in 1984. In the apparition of July 1917 in Fatima, Our Lady stated that if this request were not granted, Russia would spread “its errors throughout the world, promoting wars and persecution of the Church. ”
This re-consecration will hopefully bring peace.
