A prayer in prepartion for death

PREPARATION FOR DEATH

The sick person should hold a crucifix, or at least there should be one in the room where he/she may see it easily and often look on it with confidence.

Those who remain by the sick person’s bedside, from time to time should encourage the sick person to say the following prayers:

ACT OF ACCEPTANCE OF DEATH

Oh Jesus, adoring your last breath, I implore you to receive me. I know not whether I shall have free use of my understanding when I leave this world, so from this moment, I offer to you my agony and all the pains of my departing. You are my Father and Saviour. I commend my soul into your hands. I desire that in my last moment, I may be united to your death, and that the last beat of my heart may be an act of pure love for you.

My Lord and my God, from this moment I accept at your Hands, with resignation and cheerfulness, the kind of death it may please you to send me, with all its pains and anguish.

Holy Mary, Mother of God pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

My Guardian Angel, guide and protect me.

St Michael, the Archangel, guide and protect me.

Amen.
