Ash wednesday

Three Masses will take place on Ash Wednesday – 10.00am and 6.30pm in St Kevin’s Church and 11.00am in Our Lady of the Rosary Church Culfadda.

Blessed Ashes are a sacramental, just as holy water or blessed palm is.

The ashes used on Ash Wednesday are made from the burning of palms blessed in the previous year’s Palm Sunday celebration, when Christians carry palms to recognise the Gospels’ reference to Jesus’s path being covered in palm on the day he entered Jerusalem.

The blessing of ashes will take place during Mass and people are also welcome to take some home for those who are unable to come to Mass for the beginning of Lent.
